Dances of the oldskool - Northern Soul
I thought it would be fun to have a series of dance history in here, as a resource to see what could be incorporated into your moves. The more you know...
Before raves started, in the 70's there was a musical movement in the UK called Northern Soul. The music was a lot higher BPM than what was being played in the rest of the country. There were drug laden parties that lasted all night (surprise surprise), and they had their own dance by the same name.
When house music made the jump to the UK, it hit this scene first.
The dance has a continuous padabure-like pattern that's interrupted with back-bending dips, half splits, bucking broncos, high kicks, and fast spins.
Jump to 0:51 for the dancing.
Let me know if you guys like these, I'll try to put one up once in a while.
